Although there is some leeway on this. when Murry Hope first thought of the name she was combining the Egyptian ‘Pascht’ with the French ‘Chat’.
The Egyptian, which is usually written as ‘Bast’ will depend for pronunciation on the Egyptologist’s interpretation. The ‘B’ is a soft B, so it’s almost like a ‘P’. The ‘S’ is also a soft S, so it’s like a ‘Sh’ (or, yes, like your ‘Schwepps’).
For ‘Eyani’ - I would pronounce this like ‘eh’ and ‘yanee’.
Similar applies to their home planet, Nebthwt. I actually pronounce the ‘b’ there more like a ‘v’. The ‘w’ is more like a ‘w’ with a ‘u’. So it’s like Nebv-th-wu-it. Nebthwt, btw, is one of four principal deities in Egypt, the other in the family being Isis (Sirius A), Osiris (B), Set (=Ishna - God of balance, not god of evil/Satan). Horus is the child or offspring. The Egyptians would have written, and perhaps spoken, Isis (which is the Greek) as ‘Iset’ and Osiris (also Greek) as ‘Isar’. Of course the Egyptian civilisation stretched over many thousands of years, and so these pronunciations would’ve changed quite a lot over those centuries, bit like Chinese whispers.
So the Sirius system is actually a ‘double binary’ - the two stars, male and female, plus the two planets, male and female.
There’s a lot of intriguing and curious ancient aliens stuff there. I’ll be writing about all this in due course.
Really glad you’re liking my new section, btw! Thanks!
ancient gods very interesting to me as a way that primitive civs. could understand alien encounters.
That tauroctony thing i wrote is based on one of the principle mythologies of Mithraism... the killing of the bull by Mithras. Mithraism is a belief that ultimately lost out to the cult of Osiris. theres a mithraic temple ruin near where i live in northumberland
I’m not sure Mithraism lost out to a cult of Osiris, but rather Christianity, which bears a lot of similarities in its rituals (like the Eucharist) to Mithraism. Then again, Christianity also borrowed/appropriated heavily from Egyptian mythology as well. And then of course diluted it, or suppressed it, perhaps - for example how they turned the Goddess (Isis) into the ‘helpless virgin Mary’ (i.e. it’s patriarchal, and authoritarian, rather than gender-balanced). Jesus being Horus, of course, (the younger Horus during life - as the ‘son’ of ‘god’ i.e. Osiris) who then dies at the end, but is resurrected to take his father’s place at which point he becomes the older Horus (the resurrected Osiris). In the Egyptian story of course he defeats ‘Set’ who, in Christianity, was turned into a version of ‘the devil’. So that’s the ‘redemption of all of us/our sins through Jesus’ own sacrifice’ thing (which I’ve often seen as simply ‘abdication of personal responsibility’).
The comparative mythology thing is really intriguing, for sure. One of the most intriguing aspects is how there are such similarities across seemingly disparate cultures who, if the orthodoxy is to be believed, never met each other. Colonists/evacuees from Atlantis going out in all directions might explain things differently, I wouldn’t wonder…
One of the early stories around Osiris for example, is the arrival in Egypt around 10,500 BCE and teaching the natives more advanced stuff, like agriculture. That date coincides with the end of the ice age and the Younger Dryas event, generally thought to be a large asteroid which crashed into Greenland, melting the entire ice sheet immediately, thus causing the ‘flood’ (and the end of Atlantis). I think I alluded to this in my last Fairytale Sunday (stories my mother taught me).
I would definitely imagine that ETI would’ve visited this planet in those days in part because humans at the time would have been more psychologically open to such visits, without it causing them any distress or fear, which would, unfortunately, be the case if such visits occurred today. Stick around for some of my stories in this section to come where I do look at these sorts of psychological questions…
I love this, and am looking forward to it!
It's The Aliens!
Yes! There will definitely be some Ancient Aliens stuff. I love all that...
egypt... cats... atlantis... lost civilisations... aliens..
Shiny things make all better!
how are you pronouncing Paschats?
is it like French "Pa-sha" as in "Pas (les) chats" (i.e. not cats)
or is it "Pa-SHA-ts" with a soft "sch" as in the legendary:
"shu-wuh- pee -pees" (schwepps)
or Pascats, with a hard "sch" like in "school"
or like ... dare i say... "valley" as in:
"Oh. my. Gawd. Those Pazzchats? are like, soooo not from this planet. I mean rilly?"
It’s like Pash-ats.

Hmm - another long comprehensive answer!
there are some things which seem most easy to explain via lost advanced ancient civs... aliens...love the idea but the physics seems hard to overcome.
Or could it simply be that the physics is wrong…?
or as yet undiscovered, as you suggest...😎
