The fact that “Firefly” was not the given Joss Whedon reference may have fractured my relationship with Katrina, but I expect I will forgive her in time. 😂
Alas, sometimes I fear I am not quite smart or worldly enough to gather the full implications of this story. Nevertheless, I carry on because her story is compelling.
The humanist perspective is vastly intriguing! I love that she claims not to be a defector—and indeed, I cannot accept her as such—on the grounds that she is looking out for all of humanity rather than a single country. What could our world be if we all had this perspective? And honestly, where I am in a country led by a blundering embarrassment, I am pushed even further into my own humanist path. If he is, in fact, a dark bodhisattva—which I must accept for myself lest I despair—perhaps he teaches lessons unintentionally to push more and more of us away from his ways and onto a humanitarian path. I was a teacher for 20 years, so I understand well how perverse the injustices enacted in the name of god and country. I was on a humanist path long before the dark bodhisattva began his reign of terror, part one or two.
But I hope we can all learn from Katrina in time, and bring some utopia into this dystopian nightmarescape.
But I do maintain that Firefly is a piece of timeless artwork, and Whedon’s finest project to date. 😉
Yeah - it goes without saying when I wrote this I was not aware of Joss Whedon’s darker side and also, maybe in Katrina’s parallel world that darker side doesn’t exist.
This is quite the point actually with a lot of the famous name-dropping - we’re talking about different versions of all these people - part of the point of the main story is to show people that ‘if only’ or the ‘what if’ version.
So do remember that Katrina has a different view of some of these famous people, so please don’t hold any of that against her. In the main long story she will be hearing about some of the things that are said about these people and either disbelieving them, or teaching them a lesson about the ‘good parallel world version’ of themselves.
This is especially true of the political figures she mentions. Part of the point of the parallel world story is to show people what they are missing.
Exactly! I totally love the parallel worlds theory where these people may have brighter sides to them. And of course, I was only joking about harboring any ill will toward Katrina for mentioning Buffy without mentioning my utmost favorite “Firefly.” Her reference was better, because more people are likely to have heard of and understood that reference than mine.

Lol! I love Firefly too by the way. In fact it’s probably about time I binged-watched my box set of it…
Me too! Perhaps I’ll break it out tonight.
Just occurs to me there’s probably a bit of Summer Glau’s Firefly character in Katrina. They don’t look that dissimilar either.
I can’t totally see that!
