New poems are for paid subscribers only - usually. Occasionally, I let the rest of you see them. but I value my paid subscribers and I want to try and give them stuff that means something, you know?
I’ll do the ‘redeem my free post’ thing for the rest of you. So you can read it and then, well, if you want to do a paid thing, then have a big hug from me.
Anyway, I just finished watching that movie Arrival, and this little poem just popped into my head, as poems do.
I was also pondering the enigma of how Only Poems Daily can post maybe one decent poem a week then posting awful utter shite the other six days. So I thought, hmm, better put my money where my mouth is, eh. And write something beautiful.
So here you are. It took me, I don’t know, a half an hour or something like that (including revision).
This one is called Departure. Like I said, I was watching Arrival and the end credits got all foggy. There’s lots of fogginess in that movie. So that’s where it came from, basically.
As a translator, of course I was intrigued by the movie. Didn’t make much sense in terms of intelligent psychology - or translation, for that matter - but I enjoyed it nevertheless. I think Amy Adams should do something about her nose, though. I would, if I had her money.
Whatever. Here’s my poem…
