That is a curious point you make about how was it even possible. Maybe there is a Mathis-style fakery story in there somewhere. I certainly find it difficult to visualise how people can survive such a trip. I mean, obviously they didn't in the end, but they almost did.

Coincidentally Byrd came up in something I read the other day, completely unrelated to this article. It was what seems like an amazingly fun conspiracy theory about Nazis escaping with lots of advanced tech and hiding out in a secret Antarctic base, and it’s them who is responsible for all the UFOs. And the idea that Byrd took a veritable army with him in order to try and defeat those dastardly Nazis but had to turn back, and for some reason started gibbering insanely (as you do)…

Yep. I got round to watching that clip you linked to and I didn’t notice him talking about some great impenetrable ice wall.
